Amale, is a poetry or a
literary event conceptualized by Village Minds Production and directed by WK
Dziewornu-Norvor which seeks to query why people don’t speak ill about the
dead? Why people do marry? Why medicines sold in buses from Accra to Kumasi or
Takordi can cure all diseases?
Society will not forgive anyone
who tries to point out the ills of the deceased at his or her funeral. Society
will question why you are still single when according to them your ‘time is up’
to do so. They will either associate you as a gay or a lesbian or you dislike
men or women. Also some drug sellers in buses that go on long journeys attempt
to pray with the passengers before they set off but end up selling drugs that
heals every disease under the sun.
Amale is a Ga word meaning
lies; will bring out these lies on stage which every individual have
accepted to be the existing condition and it much not be changed.
As humans, we fear to
question, challenge and change the status quo. These attitude of ours is making
us retrogress instead of progressing. The entertainers of this thought-provoking
stage event will on the night reveal these to the audience and hence their
attention will be drawn to it in order to effect changes as and when it is
needed.
Amale, according to the
organizers will be a night of music and dance, drama and spoken word poetry.
Amale comes off on the 8th
day of April, 2016 at Alliance Française in Accra. Village Minds Production in
2015 produced a captivating love story stage play dubbed THE LOVE OF MAMAVI and in
2016 produced a touching story concerning our folks who live on the streets of
Accra dubbed HOMELESS. All these plays were written and directed by Nii Ayi
Solomon, WK Dziewornu-Norvor respectively.
On the Facebook page of
Village Mind Production some thought provoking posts that will make ‘wet’ the
appetite of a stage play audience include;
‘You
welcomed me into oblivion like royalty and beautifully, set me ablaze with
lies. I marveled as you exchanged pleasantries with the moon by day and sun by
night. Take a bow…..I love the way you lie’
‘Why
do you smile at me? Yet in your head you sing songs of doom. You say everything
will be alright, yet in your mind you pray for my downfall, return not to my
hut for my heart now walks on a road of separation’
‘Like
a fantasy, it’s sweet and wonderful. Every relationship has high hopes for this
and equivalent to toothpaste… it’s potent and sharp, but for a moment. Every
relationship has its expiration date yet we fail to take notice so like a
bottled water, Most relationships appear so pure but aren’t’
Indeed #Amale2017 my truth, your truth, the
truth!
See you there!!!
